I've had similar issues and it was actually windows defender blocking file access for aoe4 so if you still have issues you can maybe check that to be sure. 1. A soon as the update is installed, when you click on the "play" green button on Steam, the window "preparing to launch etc" appears and the button switches to the blue "stop". Method#1. Run the game as an administrator. Go to your Steam library. Right-click on Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. Go to Manage > Browse Local Files. Right-click on AoE3DE_s .exe application. Select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab. Under the Settings section, check the " Run this program as an administrator " option. AfterI start the game runs for about 3 or 10 minutes, then it freezes; I can't see why. There's no dialogue window or anything, it doesn't close the application or so, it just freezes and doesn't run anymore.
