There is no way to reduce weight in an appreciable way without some real effort. The Miata does not have much excess fat. In my car I've removed the soft top, spare, and jack. This adds up to easily over 60lbs. The difference was very noticeable. Other people often remove the P/S, A/C, etc.
Step 3: Tape the window to the piece of Lexan. Trace the outline of the window onto the Lexan, making sure to add 1/4″-1/2″ or so to the outside edge. The rear window in the hardtop is bonded in just like the windscreen, I have cut 2 windows out of hard tops using a good old Stanley knife but it's very fiddly. I did try the saw wire method but the shape of the window and the securing bolts made it more awkward than the knife. Obviously you could get a vehicle glass fitter to cut it out for.

Very nice. My NC came with a removable hardtop (before I really knew they were rare) and I enjoyed it. (Now, I prefer hitting the button on my RF nowadays after years of taking the NC hardtop down the hill to the back of my townhouse, in the back door, and carefully hanging it on the wall, but still- it was a fun hardtop.)

A bit of rubbing alcohol to remove any oils seemed like the right choice. Amazingly, there was very little black stuff on my white microfiber after I finished cleaning. I guess the bottom side of a hardtop stays clean pretty easily.
A New Miata Hardtop in New York. Recent news from Mazda indicates a new 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata hardtop. It is still very affordable, the only such car in its class, along with a convertible top.
